Four score and fifteen days ago

...In other words the last time we posted.
#historynerd

I know I've apologized for this multiple times but I am again sorry for the giant pauses in between posts on this blog. The three of us just entered our junior year in high school which means AP classes and, over the summer, summer assignment for all of us. Anyways here is an outfit of mine that I like to wear to church.

Shirt: Forever 21
Black tank-top*: Walmart
Skirt: Target
Shoes: Payless
Necklace: my mom's

*The black tank-top was worn underneath the shirt to make it modest because it was a bit too baggy.

And surprise surprise, Target actually has some modest skirts! And more than one style! And lots of color choices! Say what?!

Also, I'm excited to announce that I started a music blog (in addition to this one, not to replace it) over the summer! This one is solely clean music so you will probably not see any music on this blog outside of one song per outfit post. I try to post on it every Monday but again, I go back and forth between the two blogs. It's called Noteworthy and the link is right here --> http://anoteworthytune.blogspot.com/
Please follow my Noteworthy blog and this blog if you haven't already! Thank you for your support! We love you guys!

LDS Prom

I know it has been a long time since we have updated but its been a little crazy. Today was the last day of school for us though so we will be posting again :)

LDS prom was held on May 3rd which Emily and I attended. Finding a modest dress was a long and difficult process but I'm going to tell you what I did to hopefully help you out for the next time you go to a formal dance.
Here we go!

Before Prom

Me, Ellen, Sara, and Emily.

The dress: A friend of mine who is in college now actually gave me the dress she wore for her junior prom... and that dress was given to her by someone in her ward. A good way to start is to ask around (or on Facebook, which I did). You may not have to spend much, if anything that way. The dress was modest already but it was about two sizes too big for me. I ended up taking it to a local alterations place and got it taken in to fit me better. Afterwards, I realized that it was going to be too low in the front and we couldn't tighten it anymore on the sides. We used three different methods to fix this problem.
       1. Fold the front over itself and sew (I tried to upload pictures of it but it didn't work. Basically, kind of scrunch it together and sew a line straight down). This made it look a little odd so...
       2. My mom had found some sandals at a garage sale a while back and she took the top decorative part off. She made a headband with one and the other we sewed to my dress to cover the stitches.
       3. I found a black camisole at Target that had lace on the top and came up high enough to solve my problem.

Shoes: Payless
Clutch: Payless
Necklace: My mom's
Bracelet: Payless (it came in a set)
Hair: Here is the tutorial

At the end of the night.

And a song.

For Your Entertainment

Hello there! It's been too long!
I could make up a thousand excuses for why we haven't updated in over a month but I think the biggest for Emily and I was the hassle of LDS Prom, which we will be posting pictures of very soon.
Until then, enjoy some music!

The Search

Finding dresses that are long enough and have sleeves is hard! Everything is so short these days.  Finding a dress that is modest, not to expensive, AND super cute for Mormon Prom = Hardest thing on the planet. I need serious help! Please if you know any where for dresses tell me!!

I'll share what I've found so far...

I adore Anthropologie  but the prices are crazy high.

ModCloth has pretty much been the only site I've really seen stuff I like that may work. They even have a section under dresses called 'Longer Lengths'. The only problems are the price and the fact its all online. What would be your Maximum to spend on a Prom dress your Sophomore year? Would you buy yours online?
Here are some of my current favorites:
The sleeves/skirt probably aren't long enough for Mormon Prom though...

This one is out of stock...

To causal for prom?

What I really wanted was a lace dress, but i cannot find a single one long enough! I might have to resort to buying a dress and sewing fabric to make it longer.

Help me:'( I'm open to any suggestions.

I hope something good will work out with my dress issue so here's to hoping:

Simply Put

Here is a closer view of the print on my scarf.

My hair looks so light!

In case you can't tell, owls are my favorite animals :)

Shirt: Khols
Pants: Target
Scarf: Urban Outfitters

A scarf is a great way add noise to an otherwise quiet outfit. Urban Outfitters can be pretty expensive though. Some of their sale prices end up being a "typical" store price (meaning stores like Target, Forever 21, and Wet Seal). Occasionally, things like this scarf are worth it.

I'm really excited to share this song because it is probably my favorite right now. It was an iTunes song of the week a few weeks ago so I downloaded it (for free!) and I've come to love it.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!

Dress: DownEast
Shoes: Thrifted(steve madden)
Wristband: sorry, this isn't apart of the outfit. (EFY)
Earrings: Forever 21

Happy St. Patrick's Day my friends! Hope you're wearing green today! Don't want to get pinched now!
I found this adorable vintage styled dress at this cute modest store named Down East. Great find! Its length is perfect, and it's super comfortable! You can either tie the bow in the front, or tie it in the back. Both ways are fantastic! For my hair, I twisted one side over and pinned it. For the side with my bangs, I twisted them, then puffed them up on top of my head. I think it's cute:) haha!

thanks:)
I love this song! LISTEN!

Sweet Serendipity

I know I'm a little late but I hope everyone had an amazing Valentines Day.

Flowery tank-top: thrift store
Brown tank-top (under): Target
Sweater: H&M
Belt: Aeropostale
Pants: Walmart

The tank top was a great find. I had actually decided the day before that I wanted to find something like this and just happened to come accross it at a thrift store. It was one of those places where people can sell their old clothes to the store and the store turns around and sells the clothes again so they had a better selection. I knew that if I bent over wearing this shirt that I would have a problem so I wore a form-fitting tank top underneath.

On a side note, I'm looking for a lime green (or some shade of green that's close, but not neon) cartigan. If anyone could tell me where I can find one, I would appreciate it :)

I titled this post "sweet serendipity" for the suprising things you can find at secondhand stores and places you may not expect. It was also because of this song.

Having A Bad Day?

Here are some of my favorite songs to listen to when I'm not having a great day, or anytime really but specifically when I'm feeling down.

Here is the classic song that most people know and listen to to feel better.
Bad Day by Daniel Powter

This song is just a reminder that we each have a divine purpose. No matter how many times people make you feel worthless, you are here for a reason. You are a child of God. He cares about you immensly and loves you. He will never forget you. He is always here to help you.
Who I Am by David Archuleta

I love how this song makes me aware that we aren't alone and we can fight whatever trial we are facing, no matter how impossible it may seem.
Face Up by Lights

In 2005, Andrew McMahon, the singer of the song Swim by Jack's Mannequin, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, but made a full recovery. If anyone understands what it means to fight your way through until the end, it's people like this. No matter what the trial, no matter how big or how small, don't give up. Keep going, the horizon is not as far as you think.

There may be valleys and low points in our lives, there may be mountains of various heights to climb, but the greatest feeling of all is reaching the top. If you give up on the journey, you will never know how amazing and rewarding it is at the top of the mountain.
Not that that has much to do with the song... but hey, it works.
Jump Rope by Blue October

This song speaks for itself and is so beautiful. There's also a quote from this singer, Rachel Taylor, that I really liked: "But the beauty of tragedy and ache, is the story we have after we persevere."
The One About Indiffernece by He Is We

When I'm feeling stressed out or upset, I find it comforting to take a deep breath, close my eyes, and listen to this song (although if your eyes are open, you will see some pretty amazing pictures). It helps me appreciate all of the little, and big, joys in life.
Something Beautiful by Newsboys

We have all made mistakes, but we can recover from them no matter how bad it is. That's what forgiveness is for. We all are given a second chance. As Matt Thiessen of the band Relient K said
"Take a good look at yourself and know
You've got yourself a ways to go
But difficult is not impossible
You can take back all the lost control
Take a good look at yourself and see
That you'll emerge eventually
As long as your heart's not too far gone
From the only thing that can save you from yourself

Forgiveness can be given when you think it can't
Cause with every passing second comes a second chance".

(the rest of the song wasn't entirely relevant but I really liked this part).

Have a fantastic day :)

The Look For Less

A couple weeks ago I was strolling through Old Navy and I saw this amazing polka dot top.

I knew I had to own it so I checked the price tag, $29.94. Now that isn't too bad for a blouse, but I'm a poor High School student so I reluctantly put it back. I planned to snatch it the second it went on sale. Recently I was walking through another favorite store, Forever 21 and saw a very similar top for only
$13.50!
Can you guess what I did? I pounced! I actually think I like the bigger dots better and for less than half the price! Needless to say, this girl is a happy girl:)

I'm going to roll the sleeves up a tad and wear it with a black tank underneath so it isn't see through. Maybe I'll post an outfit with it soon!

Just Add Lace

Sometimes I (and I know other people have the same issue) will find an amazing dress that is just slightly too short. Have no fear! There are ways to fix this! The dress I have pictured was one that I had this problem with and the solution was fairly simple. Since there was already lace on the dress, I just added more lace to the bottom hem. I doubled up the lace on the end to make it more of an actual layer. Now it reaches my knees and is long enough when I sit down!

The sun was in my face. Thus the odd expression.

Here is a closer view of the hem of the dress.

Dress: Target (the lace on the end was from JoAnn's)
Sweater: H&M (seriously, invest in a tan sweater. It works with everything)
Shoes: Payless
Necklace: my mom's (from a thrift store) (I wanted to wear a pearl necklace but it didn't quite work so this one was a nice alternative with a similar affect)
Ring: Swap meet

I LOVE roses and the red was a nice accent to the outfit. I had actually been looking specifically for a ring with a red rose for a little while and was excited to find this.

This song has one of my favorite quotes: "We all have a story to tell whether we whisper or yell".

A study in Pale Pink

Shirt: Target(you can get anywhere though)
Scarf: Target( anywhere though)
Skirt: Thrifted(forever 21 has them though)
Belt: Thrifted
Tights: Old-Navy
Shoes: Forever 21

Hey guys! Megan here! Today I have on here a pale pink pencil skirt with a plain white T. I received these extraordinary black and white polka-dot tights for christmas, and I finally decided to put them to use. Patterned tights are also one of my favorite things to wear. I also added one of my favorite scarves to wear. I tied the ends together so it would turn into an Infinity scarf. I also knotted my brown belt so it would have more pizazz. For the pencil skirt, I know forever 21 has this in stock because I recently saw them there. Pale colors can be paired with a lot of different things. If I were you, I would definitely invest in a plain pale skirt.(Wether it's blue, pink, white, cream, yellow, etc).

Thanks again:) We love you!

I love Andy Grammer! ENJOY!

First Guest Post!

Hey everyone, its Emily and today we are having are first guest post! Yay! Hopefully we can get some outfit posts from you guys. Its boring with only us three:( Email us your photos at ldscoveredgirls@gmail.com! Anyways, say hello to my older sister Ellen!!

Hey guys! I'm Ellen

So this is really exciting for both my sister and myself. I know all these awesome girls and I get to hang out with them on a daily basis. Let me tell me a little bit about myself. I am 17 and half as well as senior in high school. I'm getting excited about college and my passion right now is in art. I LOVE ART! It's the best thing in the whole world in my opinion. I guess I would say that my style is a kinda hipster/vintage/skater/t-shirt and jean sorta thing going on. Right now my goal is to get through high school (I have a pretty bad case of senior-itis) and have an amazing summer. It would be my dream to work at Disneyland and I would love to visit Russia.

Okay so that aside here's my outfit
T-shirt : Threadless($20, I'm going to talk about it)
Over shirt: Target
Pants: also Target
Shoe: Thrifted Converse ($20)

The shoes were a bargain! Converse are my kind of shoe and the forest green color I couldn't resist. What I'm mostly going to focus on in this post is my most favorite online T-shirt store I've found so far. It's Threadless (here's the link). Now the cool thing about Threadless is that people from all over the world design each and every shirt and then people can score the designs. The designs that score the highest are printed and the awesome part, I'm fairly certain they pay the chosen design's artist $2,000. That's so cool, right. However word to the wise although Threadless can be fantastic and it does have very cute and/or funny shirts some of their shirts are a little iffy subject wise. Usually on the whole it's splendiferous. So check it out! The shirt I'm wearing is called "Voyage over Edinburgh".

(Sorry this picture is definitely not flattering, but you get the idea)

Their shirts are usually really detailed and quite clever and cute. So Yay!

Here's the band I'm into right now, Hope you enjoy!

Virtuous Vintage

Top: H&M
Belt: Thrifted
Skirt: Target(ongoing sale-$9)
 Tights: Target($6)
Shoes: Thrifted(Steve Madden)
Bag: Thrifted

I totally LOVE this outfit! The skirt's design is very vintage and 'out there'. The blue and yellow pattern on the skirt pair well with a plain shirt. The ruffle sleeves of the top are a plus as well. That alone would   be fine, but to spice things up a little, try adding tights of any color( as long as it's a deep darker color). Here I wore deep Maroonish purple tights from Target. I like how it brings out the 'vintage feeling' hidden within this outfit. Wearing tights is also good to cover your legs when you're wearing the type of skirt that moves up when you sit down, giving off the appearance it's TOO SHORT. (like in the picture above) :(  All the attributes in this outfit are things very easy to find in your local department store. All you really need is: darker tights, a patterned skirt, a belt, possibly a necklace,  a plain solid shirt, and obviously shoes

Thanks for Checking out our blog!!! We appreciate it!! Here's some good tunes:)
